Our volunteers provide to those in the community who are dealing with the challenges of a life-limiting or terminal illness. They are ready to help in any situation, and the services provided by volunteers oftentimes includes assisting a patient or family member with basic activities of daily life. They are trained to listen to patients and support the families in patient’s homes, assisted-living facilities, or nursing homes.
Volunteers in hospice find it personally gratifying intellectually stimulating and emotionally meaningful to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives. Many of these volunteers were introduced to hospice through the death of a loved one and understand first hand the value of hospice care, but nearly 20% of volunteers are new hospice. Our volunteers consistently report that helping the terminally ill through hospice is not about dying but about living.
